What an LMHC is — and why it matters for New York clients.

LMHC stands for Licensed Mental Health Counselor. It is New York State's license for professional counselors, issued by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions. In most other states the same credential is called an LPC. An LMHC is qualified to diagnose and treat mental health conditions and to provide psychotherapy independently.

Dr. Audrey holds an active New York LMHC license. That is the specific thing that authorizes her to see you if you live in New York — and it's worth understanding why, because state licensure is the part of telehealth most people get wrong.

A therapist's license has to match the state you are physically sitting in during the session, not the state the therapist happens to be in. A California-licensed therapist cannot legally treat you in Queens. Dr. Audrey's New York license means she can — whether you're in a Manhattan apartment, a house in Rochester, or a dorm room in Ithaca.

If you've ever started with an online therapist and been dropped when you moved or traveled, this is usually why. Dr. Audrey is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Texas, which covers a lot of the moves New Yorkers actually make.

1

Send a request

Fill out the secure form on this page with your name, contact details, and a sentence or two about what's going on. It takes about two minutes.

Before your first appointment you'll receive intake paperwork and a HIPAA-compliant video link. No app, no account, no download — it opens in your browser.

4

Meet Dr. Audrey

Your first session is about understanding the whole picture, not filling out a checklist. You'll leave it with a clear sense of what treatment would actually look like.

About Dr. Audrey

A doctorate-level therapist who treats the whole family — not just the symptom.

Dr. Audrey Kteily, PhD, LMHC holds a PhD in Family Studies, a Master's degree in Counseling, and a BA in Psychology. She is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Texas, and has spent more than two decades helping families work through the things that are genuinely hard to work through.

Her doctorate is in family systems — which in practice means she does not treat a struggling teenager as a problem to be isolated and fixed. She looks at the whole system around that teenager: the parents, the siblings, the school pressure, the household patterns nobody notices anymore because they've been running for years. New York families often arrive having already tried the individual-therapy route. The systems lens is frequently what was missing.

Dr. Audrey believes clients and their therapist reach the best outcomes when they're allowed to be fully authentic — a belief she applies to everything from her office decor to her dress code. (No suits for Dr. Audrey.) She's a proud Ravenclaw, a Hamilton geek, still plays with Legos, and loves all things nerdy.

Where We Serve

Online therapy in every one of New York's 62 counties.

New York is really several different states wearing one name. A family in Park Slope and a family in Plattsburgh are dealing with different schools, different commutes, different costs, and often very different access to care. What they share is a shortage of doctorate-level clinicians who can actually take a new client this month.

Telehealth flattens that. Dr. Audrey's New York LMHC license covers the entire state, so the same care is available whether you're a subway ride from a dozen practices or an hour's drive from the nearest one.

If you've been searching for a "family therapist near me," a "teen therapist in NYC," or "online therapy in New York," the practical answer is that geography inside New York State no longer limits who you can work with.

How online therapy compares to a New York office visit

An honest side-by-side. Online is the right fit for most concerns — but not all of them, and it's worth saying which.

Comparison reflects Dr. Audrey's 100% telehealth practice versus a typical New York in-office therapy practice.

Fees & Insurance

How payment works for New York clients

Dr. Audrey is an out-of-network provider. She does not bill New York insurance plans directly. After each session you receive a superbill — an itemized receipt with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurer needs — which you submit to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Many New York commercial plans include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits. Whether yours does, and how much it reimburses, depends entirely on your specific plan — not just the carrier.

Oxford / UnitedHealthcare

Most NY commercial PPOs

How to check your out-of-network benefits in five minutes

  1. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card.
  2. Ask: "Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?"
  3. Ask: "What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?"
  4. Ask: "What percentage do you reimburse for CPT code 90837 with an out-of-network provider?" (90837 is a 60-minute psychotherapy session; 90847 is family therapy with the patient present.)
  5. Ask: "Do I need pre-authorization, and how do I submit a superbill?"

Reimbursement is determined by your insurer, not by this practice, and nothing here is a guarantee of coverage. Plans listed above are examples of carriers common in New York, not evidence that a given plan will reimburse. New York FAQ

Questions New York clients ask most

Licensure, coverage area, insurance, scheduling, and what actually happens in a session.

Yes. Dr. Audrey holds an active Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential issued by the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions. That license authorizes her to provide counseling and psychotherapy to any resident of New York State. She sees New York clients exclusively by secure telehealth video.

LMHC stands for Licensed Mental Health Counselor. It is New York State's license for master's- and doctorate-level professional counselors, administered by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions.

An LMHC is New York's equivalent of the LPC credential used in most other states. LMHCs are qualified to diagnose and treat mental health conditions and to provide psychotherapy independently.

Any New York resident, as long as you are physically located in New York State at the time of the session. That is how state telehealth licensure works — the license has to match the state you are sitting in, not the state the therapist is in.

Dr. Audrey sees children, teens, young adults, adults, couples, and entire families across all 62 New York counties.

All of it. Because sessions are 100% online, Dr. Audrey serves every one of New York's 62 counties — all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk), Westchester and the Hudson Valley, the Capital Region around Albany, Central New York and the Southern Tier, the Finger Lakes, Western New York including Buffalo and Rochester, and the North Country.

Dr. Audrey's New York business address is 1159 2nd Ave #157, New York, NY 10065, on Manhattan's Upper East Side. It is a business address only — the practice is 100% telehealth, so all New York sessions happen over secure video rather than in person. There are no in-office appointments at this address.

Submit the secure request form on this page, call 214-225-9537, or email admin@draudrey.net. Dr. Audrey's team responds within one business day to confirm a session time in Eastern Time.

Before your first appointment you'll receive intake paperwork and a secure HIPAA-compliant video link. No software downloads and no app required.

Dr. Audrey is an out-of-network provider and does not bill New York insurance plans directly. She provides a superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Many New York commercial plans — including Empire BlueCross BlueShield, EmblemHealth, Oxford and UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and the Empire Plan — include out-of-network mental health benefits, but coverage varies by plan. Call the member services number on your card and ask specifically about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, your deductible, and your reimbursement rate for CPT code 90837.

Yes. Teen and adolescent therapy is one of Dr. Audrey's core specialties. She works with New York teens ages 12 to 18 on anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional regulation, academic and admissions pressure, social media stress, identity development, self-harm behaviors, and family conflict.

Online sessions are often easier to sustain for New York teens whose schedules are already packed with school, commuting, sports, and activities.

Yes. Dr. Audrey provides online marriage counseling and couples therapy for New York couples — engaged, married, blended-family, and long-term partners. Sessions focus on communication, trust repair, conflict resolution, co-parenting alignment, and reconnecting emotionally.

Because sessions are virtual, partners can join from two different locations, which is a practical fit for New York couples with mismatched commutes or travel schedules.

Yes. Dr. Audrey is C-DBT certified and offers Dialectical Behavior Therapy informed care to New York clients by telehealth. DBT builds four core skill sets — emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness — and is especially effective for teens and adults dealing with intense emotions, mood instability, anxiety, self-harm behaviors, and volatile relationships.

For most concerns, yes. Decades of clinical research find that telehealth therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care.

In New York specifically, online therapy removes the two barriers that most often end treatment early: the commute and the waitlist. A session that costs you 50 minutes instead of 50 minutes plus a subway ride each way is a session you are far more likely to keep.

All New York appointments are scheduled and confirmed in Eastern Time. Dr. Audrey offers flexible daytime, evening, and select weekend hours to work around New York school schedules, commutes, and work demands.

Yes, as long as every participating New York client is physically in New York State during the session.

This is one of the strongest advantages of virtual family therapy: a parent in Brooklyn, a college student upstate in Ithaca, and a grandparent on Long Island can all join the same session from where they are, without anyone crossing the city or the state to do it.

Yes. Dr. Audrey provides fully affirming, inclusive counseling for LGBTQ+ youth, adults, couples, and families in New York. Her practice is identified as LGBTQ+-friendly and LGBTQ+-owned, and is aligned with GLSEN and the Human Rights Campaign. She offers support around sexual orientation, gender identity, the coming-out process, and family adjustment.
