What an LMHC is — and why it matters for New York clients.
LMHC stands for Licensed Mental Health Counselor. It is New York State's license for professional counselors, issued by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions. In most other states the same credential is called an LPC. An LMHC is qualified to diagnose and treat mental health conditions and to provide psychotherapy independently.
Dr. Audrey holds an active New York LMHC license. That is the specific thing that authorizes her to see you if you live in New York — and it's worth understanding why, because state licensure is the part of telehealth most people get wrong.
A therapist's license has to match the state you are physically sitting in during the session, not the state the therapist happens to be in. A California-licensed therapist cannot legally treat you in Queens. Dr. Audrey's New York license means she can — whether you're in a Manhattan apartment, a house in Rochester, or a dorm room in Ithaca.
If you've ever started with an online therapist and been dropped when you moved or traveled, this is usually why. Dr. Audrey is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Texas, which covers a lot of the moves New Yorkers actually make.

A doctorate-level therapist who treats the whole family — not just the symptom.
Dr. Audrey Kteily, PhD, LMHC holds a PhD in Family Studies, a Master's degree in Counseling, and a BA in Psychology. She is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Texas, and has spent more than two decades helping families work through the things that are genuinely hard to work through.
Her doctorate is in family systems — which in practice means she does not treat a struggling teenager as a problem to be isolated and fixed. She looks at the whole system around that teenager: the parents, the siblings, the school pressure, the household patterns nobody notices anymore because they've been running for years. New York families often arrive having already tried the individual-therapy route. The systems lens is frequently what was missing.

New York is really several different states wearing one name. A family in Park Slope and a family in Plattsburgh are dealing with different schools, different commutes, different costs, and often very different access to care. What they share is a shortage of doctorate-level clinicians who can actually take a new client this month.
Telehealth flattens that. Dr. Audrey's New York LMHC license covers the entire state, so the same care is available whether you're a subway ride from a dozen practices or an hour's drive from the nearest one.
If you've been searching for a "family therapist near me," a "teen therapist in NYC," or "online therapy in New York," the practical answer is that geography inside New York State no longer limits who you can work with.
Request a SessionNew York City — All Five Boroughs
Family, teen, couples, and DBT sessions for clients across the five boroughs. No cross-town commute, no waiting room, and evening slots that survive a real New York work schedule.
Long Island
Online therapy for Long Island families dealing with school pressure, teen anxiety, and the long-commute strain that leaves parents and partners running on empty by the time they get home.
Westchester & the Hudson Valley
Doctorate-level care for Westchester and Hudson Valley families — including the competitive-school pressure that shows up in this region's teens more often than almost anywhere else in the state.
Capital Region
Therapy for Capital Region families, state employees, and university households — with flexible hours that fit around shift work and legislative-session schedules.
Central New York & the Southern Tier
Online counseling for Central New York and Southern Tier families, including college and grad students at Cornell, Ithaca, Syracuse, and Binghamton who want continuity of care through the semester.
Western New York & the Finger Lakes
Family therapy, teen counseling, and DBT for Western New York — a region where wait times for specialized adolescent care can run months. Telehealth removes that queue entirely.
North Country & the Adirondacks
For North Country families, the nearest specialized clinician has often been an hour or more away in good weather. A secure video session removes the drive, the winter roads, and the missed appointments that come with both.

If you are a New York resident and you'll be physically in New York State during your session, you are eligible — whether or not your town is named on this page.
How online therapy compares to a New York office visit
An honest side-by-side. Online is the right fit for most concerns — but not all of them, and it's worth saying which.
| Online with Dr. Audrey | Typical NY office visit | |
|---|---|---|
| Real time cost per session | 50–60 minutes | 50–60 minutes plus 40–90 minutes of travel |
| Geographic reach | All 62 NY counties | Whatever is within a reasonable commute |
| Clinical outcomes | Comparable to in-person for most presenting concerns | Comparable to telehealth for most presenting concerns |
| Whole-family sessions | Members can join from separate locations across the state | Everyone has to physically be in the same room |
| Privacy | No waiting room, no lobby, no running into a neighbor | Shared waiting area |
| Weather and transit disruption | Session happens regardless | Snow, delays, and service changes cause cancellations |
| Continuity when you travel or move | Uninterrupted anywhere in NY, NJ, or TX | Care typically pauses |
| What you need | A device, internet, and a private space for an hour | Transportation and a matching schedule |
| Not the right fit for | Active psychiatric emergencies, situations requiring in-person crisis intervention, or care that must be coordinated with an inpatient or intensive outpatient program | — |
How payment works for New York clients
Dr. Audrey is an out-of-network provider. She does not bill New York insurance plans directly. After each session you receive a superbill — an itemized receipt with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurer needs — which you submit to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Many New York commercial plans include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits. Whether yours does, and how much it reimburses, depends entirely on your specific plan — not just the carrier.
How to check your out-of-network benefits in five minutes
- Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card.
- Ask: "Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?"
- Ask: "What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?"
- Ask: "What percentage do you reimburse for CPT code 90837 with an out-of-network provider?" (90837 is a 60-minute psychotherapy session; 90847 is family therapy with the patient present.)
- Ask: "Do I need pre-authorization, and how do I submit a superbill?"
Reimbursement is determined by your insurer, not by this practice, and nothing here is a guarantee of coverage. Plans listed above are examples of carriers common in New York, not evidence that a given plan will reimburse.
